FORGET ME NOT

FORGET ME NOT!
I FOUGHT IN A FOREIGN LAND
DEFENDING SOMEONE ELSE'S SAND

I ANSWERED MY COUNTRY'S CALL
AND LEFT WALKING TALL
I NOW SIT IN THIS CAGE
CERTAINLY FULL OF RAGE

DAYS SEEM LIKE YEARS
MY EYES FILL WITH TEARS
SOMETIMES WHEN I LOOK TO THE SKY
I WISH I COULD JUST DIE

THEN I THINK ABOUT MY WIFE
AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE IN MY LIFE
BEFORE I LEFT FOR 'NAM
WE HAD DINNER WITH MOM

I WONDER IF SHE IS OKAY
AND HOPE TO SEE HER AGAIN ONE DAY
I THINK ABOUT MY FAMILY ALL OF THE TIME
BUT I SIT HERE CONVICTED OF NO CRIM

ALL I CAN DO IS PRAY
AND HOPE TO GO HOME ONE DAY
CERTAINLY MY COUNTRY WOULD NOT LEAVE ME TO ROT?
PLEASE, FORGET ME NOT!
