Don't ever forget me, I died for you,
I did not ask why, I did not cry,
I held my head high, did what was right,
I hated War, I hated to fight.
I went for you, So you would not have to,
I didn't mind that you weren't there,
As long as you remembered I was,
And never forgot how much I care.
I had dreams like you when I was small,
They didn't include leaving my family all,
Or being laid to rest in a place so far,
Away from my dreams with only a scar.
Now I must go, Please, do not weep,
I pray the Lord my Soul to keep,
And when I die before I wake,
I pray the Lord, my soul to take.
